The UKBCCI Trade Delegation has successfully concluded its mission to Bangladesh, making a significant step in promoting bilateral trade and investment opportunities.
The delegation led by UKBCCI Chairman Mr Iqbal Ahmed OBE, included UKBCCI President Mr M G Moula Miah MBE, Founding President Mr Bajloor Rashid MBE, President of the Bangladesh Region Showkat Aziz Russell, Regional President of Midlands Mr Imam Uddin , and Rupa Huq, Member of Parliament for Ealing Central and Acton , Professor of Surrey University and Industry representatives, other key stakeholders, alongside UKBCCI Directors and Members. Their collective efforts focused on exploring potential investment opportunities and strengthening ties between the UK and Bangladesh.
During the visit, the team met with Dr Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh, Mr. Lutfey Siddiqi, Special Envoy on International Affairs to the Chief Adviser, Lamiya Morshed and other prominent sector Advisers, including Mr Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) & Bangladesh Economic Zone Authority (BEZA), Mr. Sheikh Bashir Uddin, the Adviser of the Ministry of Commerce, Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, the Adviser of the Ministry of Finance, Mr Md. Touhid Hossain, the Adviser of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Adilur Rahman Khan, the Adviser of the Ministry of Industries, Ms. Farida Akhter, the Adviser of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, and the National Chamber, as well as industry leaders, local businesses and inspiring young entrepreneurs.
A welcome dinner for the delegates was hosted by UKBCCI Chairman, Mr Iqbal Ahmed OBE. The event was attended by prominent figures from the Government Bangladesh,including the Honourable Governor of Bangladesh Bank, Dr Ahsan H Mansur, Former Commerce Minister, Mr Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and other distinguished guests.
The mission focused on identifying opportunities and fostering joint ventures in sectors such as the garment industry, manufacturing, infrastructure, financial services, payment gateways, health & social care, and various consumer markets.
A key highlight of the mission was the visit to the “Bangladesh Specialised Economic Zone” (BSEZ) in Araihazar Upazilla, Narayanganj. This visit provided the delegates with valuable insights into Bangladesh’s growing industrial infrastructure and investment potential.
The Press Conference was held on 7th January hosted by the Bangladesh Regional President, Mr Showkat Aziz Russellfollowed by the Meeting with Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA). The day’s events concluded with a dinner for the delegates, also hosted by Mr Russell.
The mission’s accomplishments were widely recognised, with extensive media coverage in Bangladesh, reinforcing UKBCCI’s position as the leading British-Bangladeshi business platform committed to strengthening bilateral trade relations amidst global challenges.
The positive outcomes of the mission were also echoed by the Bangladesh High Commission in London, which described the Trade Delegation as highly successful, highlighting the shared enthusiasm for continued collaboration.
