A delegate team from UK Bangladesh Catalysts of Commerce & Industry (UKBCCI) visited Bangladesh to participate at the Bangladesh Business Summit organised by Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FBCCI) from 11th to 13th March.
The Prime Minister of Bangladesh, H.E. Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the three-day Bangladesh Business Summit at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) in Dhaka on Saturday March 11, 2023.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Commerce Ministry, and the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) partnered with FBCCI for the summit. There were three plenary sessions on strategic issues, 13 parallel sessions, B2B Meets, Networking Sessions, Open House Reception & Guided Tours for International Delegates.
Foreign investors and business delegates from 19 countries of the world including the UKBCCI participated in this flagship event.
The Prime Minister reminded business persons from home and abroad that her government has been giving topmost priority to improving the investment environment in Bangladesh to attract both local and foreign direct investments.
Headed by the President of UKBCCI, Mr M G Moula Miah FRSA, other members of the team were Mr Iqbal Ahmed OBE DBA, Chairman, UKBCCI, Mr Nazmul Islam Nuru, Former President, Mr Mohammad Siddqur Rahman, Regional President of East of England, Mr Kamru Ali, Director of Financial Affairs, Ms Rohema Miah, International Trade Affairs Director, Mr Azad Ali, Former Director of International Trade Affairs, Mr Abdul Hannan Tarofdar, Corporate Member, Mr Shamimur Rahman Bashar, Member, Mr Nazrul Islam, Member, Mr Abdul Ahad, Member, Mr Ranju Miah, Member & Mr Anamul Hoque, Member.
As a part of their post summit activities UKBCCI delegates met with Mr Mohammad Shahabuddin Chuppu, Honourable President-elect of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh on 14th March. UKBCCI delegates also met important leaders from public and private sectors including FBCCI and BIDA (Bangladesh Investment Development Authority).
UKBCCI delegates also attended the networking meeting organised by Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Sylhet Chamber of Commerce & Industry & Sylhet City Corporation in honour of the delegation.
The delegates were Invited to attend an exchange of views meeting and future collaboration by the President of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI), Barrister Sameer Sattar, others participants of DCCI were Mr. S.M. Golam Faruk Alamgir, Senior Vice President, Mr. Md. Junaed Ibna Ali, Vice President, Mr. Afsarul Arifeen, Secretary General & Mr AHM Maniruzzaman, Additional Joint Secretary.
UKBCCI delegates also attended the Networking event organised by Sylhet Chamber of Commerce & Industry on 18th March, the event was chaired by SCCI President Mr. Tahmin Ahmed, other attendees were Senior Vice President Mr Falah Uddin Ali Ahmed, Director Mr Hizkil Gulzar, Ziaul Haque, Mustafizur Rahman, Prof Bashir Ahmed and member Moynur Mumin.
On 18th March UKBCCI delegates also attended the networking event organised by Sylhet City Corporation. Due to the health condition, in absence of the Sylhet Mayor Mr Ariful Haque Choudhury, the Panel Mayor Mr Mohammad Taufiq Bakash Presided the meeting. Other speakers of the event were Mr Abdul Alim Shah, Public Relations Officer, Mr Muhammed Badrul Haque, Chief Executive Officer, Mr Md Motiur Rahman Khan, Chief Revenue Officer & Mr Ruhul Alam, Executive Engineer.
Also present Mr Ali Akbar, Superintending Engineer, Mr Abdus Subhan, Executive Engineer, Mr Mohammed Asaduzzaman, License Officer (acting), Mr Md Jamilur Rahman, Taxation Officer (acting), Mr Akhtar Hussain Siddiki, Assessor & Mr Md Sadat Hussein Khan, IT Consultant. The visiting delegates each received plaques from the Honourable Mayor. In his absence these were presented by the Panel Mayor Mr Mohammad Taufiq Bakash.
In the meeting they discussed on investment potential in different sectors in Bangladesh. The Trade body of UKBCCI expressed its keenness to explore opportunities in different sectors including ICT, garments, infrastructure, banking,Financial services and other consumer sectors with the view to enhancing co-operation to promote bilateral trade between UK and Bangladesh. The trade body collected the information on current investment opportunities in Bangladesh, and upon their return to the UK they will be able to provide the information to their members and the Business community.
